Charakteristisch für die Köpfe des 17. und des 18. Jhs. ist der höhere Perlenhalskragen, dem schließlich eine sogenannte Plinthe an der Basis angefügt wurde, die oft figurative Darstellungen im Hoch- oder Flachrelief zeigt. Der Kopf gilt als Behältnis übernatürlicher Energie, die sinngerechtes Handeln steuert, und ist in gewissem Sinne der Sitz des Lebensschicksals. Der Kopf eines Mannes sichert nicht bloß das eigene Überleben und Prosperieren, sondern auch das seiner Anhängerschaft und Familie. Daher sind die königlichen Gedenkköpfe von zentralem Stellenwert für die ganze Nation.

Characteristic of the heads of the 17th and 18th centuries. is the higher beaded collar, to which a so-called plinth was finally added at the base, which often shows figurative depictions in high or low relief. The head is regarded as a receptacle of supernatural energy that controls meaningful action and is in a sense the seat of life’s destiny. A man’s head ensures not only his own survival and prosperity, but also that of his followers and family. Therefore, the royal memorial heads are of central importance for the whole nation.
