Vor Instagram: Fotografieren unter verschärften Bedingungen. Bad Ischl, Graz, Villach | AT; Kabul | AF · 1973–2002 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv) Anstoß für diese Zusammenstellung war das quadratische Foto links, das mich im Jahr 1973 in entspannter, fast Yogi-ähnlicher Haltung in der Quarantäne-Station des Krankenhauses Bad Ischl zeigt – das Foto hat wahrscheinlich meine Mutter mit ihrer „Kodak-Instamatic 100“ Kamera aufgenommen, die quadratische Aufnahmen – also: Bildausschnitte – machte, demnach voll Instagram-tauglich, denn diese online-Plattform ist vornehmlich für die Publikation von quadratischen Bildern optimiert. Dieses Foto habe ich kürzlich auf der Suche nach zwei Fotoalben, die meine Mutter bei ihrer Auswanderung nach Detroit/USA im Jahr 1953 mitgenommen hat – Erinnerungen an ihre Kindheit – und die ich für sie im Jahr 1989 auf ihre Bitte von ihrem damaligen Mann, meinem Vater, wieder zurückgebracht habe. Es waren insgesamt vier Alben, zwei davon sind derzeit unauffindbar. Aber: Bei der Suche ist mir eben dieses 8,8 x 8,8 cm große Farbfoto zugefallen, was mich freut. Es zeigt das Ende einer im Rückblick recht abenteuerlichen „Tramp“-Reise, die mich nach Indien und Nepal führen sollte, aber in Kabul/Afghanistan zum Halt kam, weil mein Reisekompagnon Mogens, ein dänischer Kunsttischler und ich an schwerem Durchfall erkrankt waren (SW-Bild oben) und uns nach einigen Tagen entschließen mussten, über Pakistan und die Wüste von Belutschistan (inkl. Buspanne) wieder zurückzufahren. Nach beschwerlicher Rückreise stellte sich heraus dass ich Gelbsucht hatte und einige Wochen in die Quarantäne-Station ins KH Bad Ischl übersiedeln musste. Dort bekam ich übrigens einen Brief von Mogens aus einem Krankenhaus in Kopenhagen.

Die restlichen Fotos zeigen mich in diversen Kranknhäusern im Laufe einer hartnäckigen, „untypischen“ Lungenentzündung. Das große Foto rechts ist eine kleine Kompilation zum Thema Krankenhausessen analog & digital – computer-archäologisch bedeutend, weil es auch eines der bunten „Jelly-iBooks“ von apple zeigt.

Kurzum: Fotografieren unter verschärften Bedingungen.

Geburten, Geburtstagsfeiern, Hochzeiten – alles wird fotografiert und gepostet. Wäre nicht „Scheidungs-Fotografie“ ein mögliches neues Geschäftsfeld für Fotograf*innen?

Bad Ischl, Graz, Villach | AT; Kabul | AF · 1973-2002 (© PP · Eternal Archives) The impulse for this compilation was the square photo on the left, which shows me in 1973 in a relaxed, almost yogi-like posture in the quarantine ward of the hospital Bad Ischl – the photo probably has My mother recorded with her “Kodak Instamatic 100” camera, the square images – ie: image sections – made, so fully Instagram-suitable, because this online platform is optimized primarily for the publication of square images. I recently took this picture in search of two photo albums taken by my mother on her emigration to Detroit / USA in 1953 – memories of her childhood – and I took them for her in 1989 at her request from her then husband, mine Father, have brought back. There were a total of four albums, two of which are currently untraceable. But: During the search, I just got this 8.8 x 8.8 cm large color photo, which makes me happy. It marks the end of a retrospective “tramp” trip that would take me to India and Nepal, but came to a halt in Kabul / Afghanistan because my traveling companion Mogens, a Danish cabinet maker and I had severe diarrhea (SW Picture above) and after a few days we had to decide to drive back via Pakistan and the desert of Baluchistan (including the bus). After arduous return trip turned out that I had jaundice and had to move a few weeks in the quarantine ward to the Bad Ischl KH. By the way, I got a letter from Mogens from a hospital in Copenhagen.
The remaining photos show me in various hospitals in the course of a persistent, “untypical” pneumonia. The big photo on the right is a small compilation on the subject of hospital eating analogue & digital – computer-archaeologically significant, because it also shows one of Apple’s colorful “Jelly-iBooks”.
In short: taking pictures under severe conditions.
Births, birthday parties, weddings – everything is photographed and posted. Would not “divorce photography” be a possible new business for photographers?
