Eine Schopf-Fackellilie erinnert mich an Pipilotti Rists „Ever is Over All“ · A torch lily reminds me of Pipilotti Rist’s “Ever is Over All”

Eine Schopf-Fackellilie aus Deutsch-Wagram vom Naschmarkt ließ mich an Pipilotti Rists großartige Arbeit „Ever is Over All“ denken. Deutsch-Wagram, Wien | AT; Zürich | CH · 1997–2026 (© s. Ausstellungsansichten: PP · # 3813 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Am Samstag am oberen Ende des Bauernmarktes an einem kleinen Verkaufsstand einer Landwirtin aus Deutsch-Wagram in NÖ Blumen/Blüten mit dichten orangeroten Dolden gesehen und sofort die letzten beiden gekauft (je € 2,50). Zum Einen: wunderschön, absolute Notwendigkeit für mein Studio (gr. Foto links), zum Anderen hatte ich (eventuell erst kurz nachher auf der Radfahrt retour?) die Vermutung, dass mit Blumen dieser Art in einer Videoinstallation von Pipilotti Rist eine junge, fröhliche durch eine Straße in Zürich gehende Frau die Seitenscheiben einer ganzen Reihe von parkenden Autos eingeschlagen hatte (s. Fotos unten). Nicht nur das: eine vorbeikommende Polizistin schaute lächelnd die Frau an und salutierte ihr (re. unt.) Ich hatte diese Installation schon mehrmals gesehen, fand und finde sie großartig. Im Studio meine Vermutung bestätigt bekommen und gleich ein interessantes Interview mit der Schweizer Künstlerin zu dieser Arbeit angeschaut (s. link)

Pipilotti Rist im oa. Interview

Pipilotti Rist, wohl die bekannteste zeitgenössische Künstlerin der Schweiz, hatte ua. in Wien an der Angewandten studiert – zeitgleich mit Stefan Sagmeister. Die beiden Fotos links oben, Pipilotti mit lila Perücke, sind Teil einer Serie, die ich mit bzw. von ihr 1998 auf der damaligen Baustelle des MQ – MuseumsQuartier Wien aufnahm (s. Tableau zur Serie).

Die beiden Fotos oben rechts und das große Foto re. sind Screenshots aus dem erwähnten Interview mit Pipilotti Rist.

2-Kanal-Video-Installation mit Ton

A torch lily from Deutsch-Wagram at the Naschmarkt reminded me of Pipilotti Rist’s magnificent work ‘Ever is Over All’. Deutsch-Wagram, Vienna | AT; Zurich | CH · 1997–2026 (© see text; © Portraits 1998 and exhibition views: PP · # 3813 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) On Saturday, at the upper end of the farmers’ market, at a small stall run by a farmer from Deutsch-Wagram in Lower Austria, I saw flowers with dense orange-red umbels and immediately bought the last two (€2.50 each). On the one hand: they were beautiful, an absolute must-have for my studio (large photo on the left); on the other hand, I had a hunch (perhaps only realising it shortly afterwards on the cycle ride back?) that, in a video installation by Pipilotti Rist featuring flowers of this kind, a young, cheerful woman walking down a street in Zurich had smashed the side windows of a whole row of parked cars (see photos below). Not only that: a policewoman passing by looked at the woman with a smile and saluted her (bottom right). I’d seen this installation several times before; I thought – and still think – it’s brilliant. Back in the studio, my hunch was confirmed, and I immediately watched an interesting interview with the Swiss artist about this work (see link)

Pipilotti Rist in the interview mentioned above

Pipilotti Rist, arguably Switzerland’s best-known contemporary artist, had studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, amongst other places – at the same time as Stefan Sagmeister. The two photos at the top left, showing Pipilotti wearing a purple wig, are part of a series I took with and of her in 1998 at what was then the construction site of the MQ – MuseumsQuartier Wien (see the series overview).
