Do-it-Yourself-Masken (DIY) No Place to Hide. Hadersdorf am Kamp, Wien | AT; Montréal | CA · 1989–2021 (© PP · # 3481 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Impulsmäßig dachte ich heute an eine Zusammenstellung von Logo-Varianten der SPÖ als Tableau-Thema, allfällig auch an die FPÖ (da sind die Varianten exuberanter + zahlreicher) – andererseits: das Wetter ist schön, muss also nicht sein bzw hatte ich dies in der einen oder anderen Form ja schon mehrfach abgefeiert. Nun denn, wohlan: DIY-Masken. Spezialanfertigungen, custom-made. Zum Verstecken, Verbergen des Gesichts? KI-Systeme können vermutlich schon aus einigen Pixeln der Augen vollwertige Fahndungsbilder erstellen.

Großes Foto links: Eine Art „Festhaltemaske“, die für einen krebskranken Freund angefertigt wurde, damit sein Kopf bei den Bestrahlungen völlig fixiert war. Eines seiner Fotos, die er mir vor seinem Tod übergeben hatte, damit ich sie in meine Bilddatenbank „einpflege“. Die Maske rechts oben stammt aus einer Sequenz über „History of Animation“ meines Films „Mont Real“ aus 1989. Links unten eine Maske des japanischen Künstlers Kimitake Sato, gesehen im Daniel-Spoerri Museum in Hadersdorf am Kamp. Besonders gut gefällt mir die „Spontanmaske“ eines Mädchens, die sich ihre Haube über das Gesichts zog, als ich sie fragte, ob ich sie fotografieren dürfe.

Hadersdorf am Kamp, Vienna | AT; Montréal | CA – 1989-2021 (© PP – # 3481 – www.ewigesarchiv.at) On impulse I thought today of a compilation of logo variants of the SPÖ as a tableau theme, possibly also of the FPÖ (there the variants are more exuberant + numerous) – on the other hand: the weather is nice, so it doesn’t have to be or I had already celebrated this in one form or another several times. Well then, here we go: DIY masks. Special designs, custom-made. To hide, conceal the face? AI systems can probably create fully-fledged mugshots from just a few pixels of the eyes.

Large photo on the left: A kind of “holding mask” that was made for a friend with cancer so that his head was completely fixed during radiation treatments. One of his photos, which he had given to me before his death so that I could “enter” them into my image database. The mask on the top right is from a “History of Animation” sequence in my 1989 film “Mont Real”. On the bottom left is a mask by Japanese artist Kimitake Sato, seen in the Daniel Spoerri Museum in Hadersdorf am Kamp. I particularly like the “spontaneous mask” of a girl who pulled her hood over her face when I asked her if I could photograph her.
