Der Krieg, Alfred Kubin und das AROMA DELLA VITA. Wien | AT · 1907–2022 (Werk © Rechteinhaber*innen; Ausstellungsansicht, Zeichnungen © PP · # 2480 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Vor dem Krieg gibt es kein Entkommen, bereits am Eingang des Leopold Museum weht die blau-gelbe Fahne der Ukraine, abgesehen davon, dass ja beständig der Krieg in der fernen Nähe wabert, ab und zu schwächer, beim Vorbeigehen oder -fahren an den Autos mit UA-Kennzeichen werden die Gedanken an das nahe Inferno oft stärker. Vor Alfred Kubins „Der Krieg“ – vor 115 Jahren mit Tusche und Feder gezeichnet – denke ich: „Aktueller und prägnanter kann ein Werk kaum sein“. Nach wiederholten Rundgängen durch die großartige Ausstellung „ALFRED KUBIN, Bekenntnisse einer gequälten Seele“ im Leopold Museum (den Titel finde ich bescheuert und unwürdig – klingt nach den Titeln der „Roman-Heftln“, die meine Oma so gerne las) zwischendurch ins Café Leopold für einen kleinen Braunen. Im Inneren der Tasse lese ich „AROMA DELLA VITA“, das Aroma des Lebens – außen als Signet der Kaffeemarke ein roter Kopf mit stilisiertem römischen Legionärshelm, der mich sofort an den Helm von Kubins „Der Krieg“ denken lässt. Krieg auch beim Kaffeetrinken. Es gibt kein Entrinnen. Auch wenn drunter MARCO SALVATORI (sinngemäß „Erlöser“) steht. Ahja – an „Ärzte ohne Grenzen“ wollte ich eh schon seit ein paar Tage für die Ukrainehilfe spenden, was wäre mit heute?

Vienna | AT 1907–2022 (work © rights holders; exhibition view, drawings © PP # 2480 www.ewigesarchiv.at) There is no escaping war, the blue and yellow flag of Ukraine is already waving at the entrance to the Leopold Museum, apart from the fact that the war is constantly wafting in the far vicinity, from time to time weaker, when walking or driving past the cars with UA license plates, thoughts of the nearby inferno often become stronger. In front of Alfred Kubin’s “The War” – drawn 115 years ago with ink and pen – I think: “A work can hardly be more topical and concise”. After repeated tours through the great exhibition “ALFRED KUBIN, Confessions of a Tormented Soul” in the Leopold Museum (I find the title stupid and unworthy – sounds like the titles of the “Roman-Heftln” that my grandmother loved to read) in between to the Café Leopold for a little brown. Inside the cup I read “AROMA DELLA VITA”, the aroma of life – on the outside, as the signet of the coffee brand, a red head with a stylized Roman legionnaire’s helmet, which immediately reminds me of the helmet from Kubin’s “The War”. War while drinking coffee too. There is no escape. Even if it says MARCO SALVATORI (meaning “saviour”) underneath. Ah yes – I’ve been wanting to donate to “Doctors Without Borders” for a few days anyway, what about today?
