Der Angriff der Stille auf die Zeit: 20 Jahre BOBBY’S – 27 Shades of Grey! Wien | AT · 2002–2022 (© PP · # 2340 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Zwar auf den ersten Blick kein Werk von Zaha Hadid oder von Herzog & de Meuron, ist doch BOBBY’S, der Kiosk bei der U-Bahn Margaretengürtel, für mich ein Bauwerk und eine Institution, die mich seit 20 Jahren beschäftigt und anregt. Mein Studio ist seit rund 20 Jahren im nahe gelegenen Werkstättenhof und daher ist es mir vergönnt, die Veränderungen an der Architektur, am Angebot, an den Werbemaßnahmen verfolgen und dokumentieren zu dürfen. Ich bin beeindruckt vom wogenden Kampf zwischen den heimischen Street-Artists, die regelmäßig die Rollbalken als Projektionsfläche ihrer „tags“, „bombings“ und „scripts“ benützen und den Purifikations-Bestrebungen der pakistanischen Betreiber, die innerhalb weniger Stunden oft deren Werke überdecken. Das Angebot wird immer wieder mal erweitert und ergänzt: „BONBONS u. MEHLSPEISEN“ goes „Eiskaltes Bier, Kalte Getränke, Whisky, Wein . . .“ Der verkehrsmäßig gut gelegene Hotspot ist zu Wahlzeiten auch gerne Convention-Center einer Sozialen Heimatpartei.

Es ist durchaus gemischtes Publikum anzutreffen, die Kühltruhen der Eisfirmen wechseln – es ist für mich sehr schön, die stetigen Variationen des vorbeiziehenden Lebens wahrnehmen und fallweise dokumentieren zu dürfen. Sozusagen. ;-)

Vienna | AT · 2002–2022 (© PP · # 2340 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Although at first glance it is not a work by Zaha Hadid or by Herzog & de Meuron, for me it is BOBBY’S, the kiosk at the Margaretengurtel underground station a building and an institution that has occupied and stimulated me for 20 years. My studio has been in the nearby workshop yard for around 20 years and I have therefore been privileged to be able to follow and document the changes to the architecture, the range of products and the advertising measures. I am impressed by the surging struggle between the local street artists, who regularly use the scroll bars as a projection screen for their “tags”, “bombings” and “scripts”, and the purification efforts of the Pakistani operators, who often cover their works within a few hours. The range is constantly being expanded and supplemented: “SWEETS AND FLOURS” goes to “Ice-cold beer, cold drinks, whisky, wine. . .” The hotspot, which is well located in terms of transport, is also often used as a convention center for a social homeland party during election times.
It is quite a mixed audience to be found changing the freezers of the ice cream companies – it is very nice for me to be able to perceive the constant variations of life passing by and to be able to document them on a case-by-case basis. So to speak. 😉
