Sich den Marcel-Duchamp-Stern auf den Schädel fräsen lassen. Lobpreisung der Büchereien. Wien | AT · 2020–2023 (© Man Ray © PP · # 2772 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Vor einiger Zeit hatte ich mir von der Friseurmeisterin meines Vertrauens, Sabine Pawlik, aus einer Laune heraus den allseits bekannten Stern von Marcel Duchamp (gr. Foto li.) ins schüttere Haar rasieren lassen („Tonsure Marcel Duchamp“). War keine leichte Aufgabe – ich hatte nur die Fotokopie eines stark vergrößerten Details der Aufnahme mitgebracht als Vorlage. Heute in der Hauptbücherei am Urban-Loritz-Platz in Wien stieß ich in dem großartigen Buch „Man Ray Portraits“ auf eine ausgezeichnete Abbildung des Fotos, das Man Ray gemacht hatte.

„Marcel Duchamp (1887–1968), französischer Künstler mit amerikanischer Staatsbürgerschaft, war ein radikaler Erneuerer, der sämtliche künstlerischen und ästhetischen Konventionen sprengte. Er hatte aktiven Anteil an den maßgeblichen Strömungen der Moderne - Kubismus, Futurismus, Dadaismus und Surrealismus – und erfand das Ready-made. 1915 lernte er in Ridgefield, New Jersey, Man Ray kennen, der sein lebenslanger Freund wurde. Aus ihrer kreativen Verbindung entstanden berühmte Werke, darunter die Photographien „Tonsure Marcel Duchamp“ und „Rose Selavy“. Gemeinsam mit Katherine Dreier gründeten sie die Société Anonyme Inc., die erste Organisation, die das Ziel hatte, moderne Kunst in New York zu verbreiten und auszustellen.“ aus: Man Ray Portraits. Photo left) had his thinning hair shaved (“Tonsure Marcel Duchamp”). It wasn’t an easy task – I had only brought along a photocopy of a greatly enlarged detail of the photograph as a template. Today in the main library on Urban-Loritz-Platz in Vienna I came across an excellent illustration of the photograph Man Ray had taken in the great book Man Ray Portraits.
