Costa-Gavras im Filmmuseum! Wien | AT · 2023 (© PP · # 2956 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Der vielfach preisgekrönte griechisch-französische Regisseur Costa-Gavras (*1933), Regisseur von Filmen wie „Z“, „Vermisst“ , „Der unsichtbare Aufstand“ und vielen anderen, präsentierte sein jüngstes Werk Adults in the Room (2019), der auf dem gleichnamigen Buch des früheren Finanzministers Yanis Varoufakis über die griechische Schuldenkrise und die Verhandlungen mit der Eurogroup basiert. Unglaublich wie klar, präsent, luzid der mittlerweile 90-Jährige über die Entstehung dieses Filmes und über die Cinémathèque française, deren Präsident er ist, sprach. Insbesondere seine Filme „Z“ über die Entstehung der griechischen Militärdiktatur und „Vermisst“ über den Militärputsch gegen Allende in Chile und die massive Beteiligung der USA daran, hatten mich in den 1970-er Jahren tief beeindruckt. Ebenfalls zu Gast war der Schauspieler Cornelius Obonya, der im Film „Adults in the Room“ den früheren österreichischen Finanzminister Fischler spielt. (links unten)

Zu Gast: Costa-Gavras

Der vielfach preisgekrönte griechisch-französische Regisseur Costa-Gavras (*1933) etablierte sich früh in seiner Karriere mit Polit-Thrillern wie Z (1969) oder État de siège (Der unsichtbare Aufstand, 1972) als Schlüsselfigur eines europäischen Kinos. Zudem ist er Präsident der Cinémathèque française. Es freut uns daher besonders, ihn in Kooperation mit dem Institut français d'Autriche als Gast im Filmmuseum begrüßen zu dürfen, wo er im Rahmen eines Gesprächs seinen herausragenden jüngsten Film Adults in the Room (2019) präsentieren wird. Adults in the Room ist der erste Film von Costa-Gavras, den er in seiner griechischen Heimat gedreht hat und präsentiert seine unverwechselbare Mischung aus packender Sozialkritik und populärem Kino in neuen Zusammenhängen. Vienna | AT – 2023 (© PP – # 2956 – www.ewigesarchiv.at) The multiple award-winning Greek-French director Costa-Gavras (*1933), director of films such as “Z”, “Missing” , “The Invisible Uprising” and many others, presented his latest work Adults in the Room (2019), based on former Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis’ book of the same name about the Greek debt crisis and negotiations with the Eurogroup. Incredible how clear, present, lucid the now 90-year-old spoke about the making of this film and about the Cinémathèque française, of which he is president. In particular, his films “Z” about the emergence of the Greek military dictatorship and “Missing” about the military coup against Allende in Chile and the massive involvement of the USA in it, had made a deep impression on me in the 1970s. Also a guest was the actor Cornelius Obonya, who plays the former Austrian Finance Minister Fischler in the film “Adults in the Room”. (below left)

The multiple award-winning Greek-French director Costa-Gavras (*1933) established himself early in his career as a key figure in European cinema with political thrillers such as Z (1969) or État de siège (The Invisible Uprising, 1972). He is also president of the Cinémathèque française. We are therefore particularly pleased to welcome him as a guest at the Filmmuseum in cooperation with the Institut français d’Autriche, where he will present his outstanding latest film Adults in the Room (2019) in a talk. Adults in the Room is the first film Costa-Gavras has made in his native Greece and presents his distinctive blend of gripping social criticism and popular cinema in new contexts.
