Karlsplatz: Die U-Bahn wird gebaut & das Wien Museum umgebaut! Eine Stadt im Zeitraffer ctd. Wien | AT · 1973–2020 (© PP · Ewiges Archiv) Das SW-Foto aus 1973 zeigt einen Blick auf den Karlsplatz als riesige Baustelle zu Zeiten des U-Bahnbaues. Links im Bild ein Wegweiser zur FAHRSCHULE KARLSPLATZ inmitten der gigantischen Baugrube.

Vor kurzem haben die Bauarbeiten zum Umbau bzw. zur Erweiterung des Wien Museums begonnen:

„Ein internationaler Architekturwettbewerb brachte 2015 die Entscheidung für den Projektvorschlag von Certov, Winkler + Ruck Architekten. Aufgabe war es, den denkmalgeschützten Haerdtl-Bau zu integrieren und den Karlsplatz als Umfeld mit einzubeziehen. Certov, Winkler + Ruck Architekten fanden die architektonische Lösung in einem erweiterten, über dem Gebäude schwebenden Neubau, der zwei zusätzliche Geschosse ergab. Der neue Eingangsbereich mit dem großzügigen Pavillon und die Öffnung des Gebäudes mit Restaurant und Plaza hin zum Karlsplatz verleihen dem neuen Wien Museum eine starke lokale Präsenz. . . .“

Construction work on the renovation and expansion of the Wien Museum began recently:
“In 2015, an international architecture competition resulted in the decision for the project proposal from Certov, Winkler + Ruck Architects. The task was to integrate the listed Haerdtl building and to include Karlsplatz as the surrounding area. Certov, Winkler + Ruck Architects found the architectural solution in an extended new building floating above the building, which resulted in two additional floors. The new entrance area with the spacious pavilion and the opening of the building with restaurant and plaza to Karlsplatz give the new Wien Museum a strong local presence. . . . “
