Am Baum getrocknete Marillen. Wien | AT · 2021 (© PP · # 2234 · www.ewigesarchiv.at) Der kleine Stand am samstäglichen Bauernmarkt am Naschmarkt war mir schon öfter im Vorbeigehen aufgefallen, stehengeblieben und etwas gekauft hatte ich allerdings nur selten. Vor ein paar Wochen schaute ich mir dann aus einem Impuls heraus die allesamt verschrumpelt wirkenden Früchte in den Plastikbechern genauer an, manche davon konnte ich nicht „erkennen“, benennen. Blieb dann etwas länger stehen, kaufte den Inhalt eines Bechers mit getrockneten Birnen – Williamsbirnen (re. unt.) – und sprach kurz mit dem Mann aus Wagram. Kletzen (oben mittig), Marillen, einmal hell orange (sonnengetrocknet), einmal braun (im Rohr getrocknet), Pfirsiche (re. ob.), Zwetschken, klar (li. ob.). Was denn das für Früchte seien? Das, das seien am Baum hängengebliebene, dort getrocknete Marillen! (gr. Foto re.) Müsse man im Mund ein bisschen anweichen. Probierte eine – schmecken sehr gut. Ob das sozusagen eine traditionelle Art des Trocknens sei? Naaa – irgendwann hätte er das halt probiert. Die getrockneten Kirschen, Weichseln fehlen auf diesem Tableau – waren eben schon ausverkauft.

A couple of weeks ago, on an impulse, I took a closer look at the shriveled fruits in the plastic cups, some of which I couldn’t “recognize” or name. Then I stopped a little longer, bought the contents of a beaker with dried pears – Williams pears (bottom right) – and spoke briefly to the man from Wagram. Kletzen (top center), apricots, once light orange (sun-dried), once brown (dried in a pipe), peaches (right above), plums, clear (left above). What kind of fruits are these? The apricots that were left hanging on the tree were dried there! (large photo right) You have to soften a bit in the mouth. Tried one – taste very good. Was that a traditional way of drying, so to speak? Naaa – at some point he would have tried that. The dried cherries and sour cherries are missing from this tray – they were already sold out.
